Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, October 2025 — Cipla Limited (BSE: 500087; NSE: CIPLA EQ) announced that it has elevated Achin Gupta, Global Chief Operating Officer (GCOO), to Managing Director & Global Chief Executive Officer (MD & GCEO) effective April 1, 2026, for a term of five years. The appointment will be proposed to the shareholders for approval. Achin will serve as MD & GCEO Designate beginning January 1, 2026, succeeding Umang Vohra, who has led Cipla as MD & GCEO since 2016. This leadership transition is part of a structured succession process developed by the Board and Umang, ensuring continuity, stability, and a clear vision for the future.
Achin Gupta has been serving as GCOO since February 2025, overseeing Commercial Markets, API, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain. He joined Cipla in 2021 as CEO of the One India Business, becoming an integral member of the Management Council. Achin has been pivotal in driving strong growth, expanding Cipla’s reach in chronic therapies and underserved geographies, and fortifying its operational backbone. Under his leadership, the India Business achieved market-leading profitability, modernized its retail force, and introduced consumer-focused innovations. He also spearheaded strategic global partnerships, positioning Cipla as a preferred innovation-led collaborator.
An alumnus of IIT Delhi (MTech, Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology) and IIM Ahmedabad (MBA), Achin brings over two decades of leadership experience and a strong track record as an entrepreneurial leader, fostering a culture of purpose, innovation, and accountability.
Umang Vohra, who joined Cipla in 2015 as Global Chief Financial & Strategy Officer and took over as MD & GCEO in 2016, has led the company through a decade of transformation guided by the purpose of “Caring for Life.” His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening Cipla’s global lung leadership, antimicrobial resistance stewardship, and digital and manufacturing capabilities, while investing in next-generation therapies.
