Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, August 1, 2026 —Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company, has appointed Amarendu Prakash as its Whole-Time Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective August 1, 2026. In his new role, he will lead the company’s strategic direction, operational excellence, business transformation, and long-term growth agenda as Hindustan Zinc continues to strengthen its leadership in the global metals and mining sector.
With more than three decades of leadership experience in India’s steel industry, Amarendu Prakash is widely recognized for driving large-scale manufacturing excellence, business transformation, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth. His appointment marks an important milestone for Hindustan Zinc as the company advances into its next phase of growth, supported by a strong Q1 FY27 performance and an unwavering focus on operational excellence, sustainability, and long-term value creation.
Prior to joining Hindustan Zinc, Amarendu Prakash served as Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), where he led one of India’s largest steel producers through a period of strategic transformation and operational improvement. Before becoming Chairman, he served as Director (In-Charge), heading the Bokaro Steel Plant and Rourkela Steel Plant, with profit and loss responsibility for 9.2 million tonnes of steel production capacity. Earlier, as Chief Business Advisor to the Chairman, he played a pivotal role in SAIL’s business transformation and financial turnaround, contributing to significant growth in revenue, profitability, and production performance. Over his distinguished 34-year career with SAIL, he also held leadership positions in production planning, sales coordination, and operations, gaining extensive expertise across integrated steel manufacturing and business management.
Complementing his extensive industry experience, Amarendu Prakash completed a program in Business Administration and Management at XLRI Jamshedpur. His strong blend of operational expertise, strategic leadership, and business transformation experience positions him well to lead Hindustan Zinc through its next phase of sustainable growth and innovation.
