Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, March 2026 – Sonata Software Limited has announced the appointment of Balaji Kumar as its Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), marking his return to the organization. This strategic move underscores Sonata’s commitment to strengthening its human capital as the industry navigates significant shifts in the talent landscape.
Kumar’s return to Sonata brings with it deep familiarity with the organization, having previously served as CHRO with a global remit across ANZ, APAC, UK, Europe, and the Americas. His experience within Sonata is expected to play a critical role in accelerating the company’s people strategy and supporting its global growth ambitions.
Prior to rejoining Sonata Software, Kumar served as Chief Human Resources Officer at Paytm, where he led the HR function during a dynamic phase of transformation, contributing to talent strategy and organizational alignment.
Earlier, during his previous tenure at Sonata Software, he played a key role in shaping the company’s global HR framework, strengthening talent management, and driving organizational capability across international markets.
Before that, Kumar held senior leadership roles at Larsen & Toubro, where he served as CHRO and Head – Leadership, Employee Engagement, and later as Global CHRO for L&T Infotech (LTI), overseeing HR for a workforce of approximately 60,000 employees globally.
His extensive career also includes leadership roles across prominent organizations such as Hindustan Unilever, Coca-Cola, Citibank, Microsoft, and Cholamandalam DBS, where he built expertise across employee relations, talent management, learning & development, and organizational development.
Kumar began his professional journey as a practicing attorney, gaining experience across courts including the High Court and the Supreme Court of India.
He holds a Master’s degree in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations (HRM) from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).
