Cairn Oil & Gas launches CAIRA to drive a smarter and future-ready workplace powered by Artificial Intelligence

New Delhi, Delhi, India, July 2025 – Cairn Oil & Gas, part of Vedanta Limited and India’s largest private oil and gas exploration and production company, has launched its unique GenAI based, in-house platform – CAIRA (Cairn Artificial Intelligence and Research Assistant), to enhance business operations and drive efficiency.

The centralised platform is designed to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies directly into employees’ routine workflows enabling them to simplify tasks, boost productivity, and improve efficiency across functions. Leveraging Generative AI, CAIRA is designed to intelligently process and respond to queries using a rich library of domain-specific data.

The platform supports key core business functions such as Sub-surface, Development, Maintenance & HSE, along with other key functions like Procurement, Human Resources, Policy, Communications among others. It integrates universal assistant ‘CAIRA’ to intelligently respond to queries backed with data, insights and analysis.

Cairn’s in-house intelligent ecosystem

CAIRA operates with dual intelligence, leveraging both pre-ingested domain data and its built-in GenAI module, allowing it to deliver precise, context-aware insights and proactively support strategic initiatives. 

The platform aids the site operational team with key metrics and trends from data-extensive technical reports while enabling quick access to historical well data for analysis and decision making.  This enables parsing of complex development plans to surface actionable data through geological insights.

From extracting precise data from large pool of documents and analysing images, handwritten notes, and scanned documents, to creating new documents – the platform is built to enhance employees’ experience and answer niche queries with accuracy. It is a step forward by Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta to digitalise and integrate AI across its business operations to unlock new future possibilities, in line with the company’s vision to double production.

The employees can also switch to ‘Ask CAIRA’ for advanced insights and cross-function collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Cairn Oil & Gas, with a technology-driven approach, has been at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge digital technological solutions such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), Artificial Learning (AL) and Drone-based Initiatives through real-time data analytics, automation, and predictive maintenance systems, the company has significantly optimised its operational activities.

Key initiatives include DRISHTI, a data-driven reservoir and production management system which is augmenting reservoir performance for 800+ wells, AI-based safety surveillance deployed on 200+ cameras, battery-powered IIoT sensors, and real-time steam trap monitoring. Cairn also leverages drone technologies for LiDAR surveys, overhead line monitoring, and risk mitigation. The implementation of Process Digital Twin technology has further improved reduced gas flaring by ~30% and fuel gas optimisation by ~18%.
