Plymouth, England, United Kingdom, August 2025 – Carrie Smith-Humfress has joined Plessey Semiconductors Ltd as Head of Talent. In this role, she will lead the company’s global talent strategy, strengthening recruitment, leadership development, and workforce planning to support Plessey’s continued growth in the microLED display technology sector.
Most recently, Carrie Smith-Humfress served as Head of Talent at Haylo Ventures, where she worked for more than two years helping Deeptech ventures scale successfully. Her role was integral to bridging investment and operational expertise, ensuring startups had the people, knowledge, and resources needed to commercialize their innovations.
Before Haylo, she was Head of Talent at Phoelex, a Cambridge-based company developing energy-efficient optical 3D chiplets. During her tenure, she played a key role in building teams to advance silicon photonics and high-speed analog and digital technologies.
Previously, she contributed significantly to WaveOptics (acquired by Snap Inc.), where she spent nearly four years. Initially joining as an Internal Recruiter, she later advanced to Talent Acquisition Manager, helping scale teams responsible for developing AR optical engines that transformed how augmented reality devices were brought to market.
Earlier in her career, Carrie gained recruitment expertise as an International Executive Search Consultant at MRL Consulting Group, specializing in semiconductor and niche technology markets, and as a Technical Recruitment Consultant at Advanced Technical Recruitment, where she supported technology clients across the UK.
