Huntersville, North Carolina, United States, January 2026 — American Tire Distributors (ATD) has announced the appointment of Charles Martin as its new Chief People Officer, effective January 2026. Based in Huntersville, North Carolina, Charles will lead ATD’s people strategy, strengthening organizational capability, leadership development, and workforce effectiveness to support the company’s large-scale distribution operations and continued growth.
With a career spanning nearly three decades, Charles Martin brings deep HR leadership expertise across manufacturing, industrial, and consumer-focused businesses, with significant experience in scaling HR programs, enabling transformation, and building high-performing teams.
Prior to joining American Tire Distributors, Charles served for about two and a half years as Global Head of Human Resources at Britax Child Safety, where he led HR strategy across the organization and supported business growth through robust people systems, workforce planning, and leadership capability-building.
Earlier, he spent over 13 years at Apex Tool Group, LLC, holding multiple senior HR leadership roles with increasing responsibility. His positions included Vice President, Human Resources – Global Power Tools, Vice President, Human Resources – Global Power Tools & North America Hand Tools, Director of Human Resources – North America Hand Tools, and Global Director Human Resources – Power & Professional Tools (formerly Danaher Tool Group). Across this long tenure, Charles played a key role in global HR leadership, organizational effectiveness, and talent strategy across complex business units.
Before Apex Tool Group, Charles worked for over four years with Danaher Tool Group, holding roles such as Director, Human Resources – North American Operations and Senior Human Resources Manager, further strengthening his expertise in operational HR, labor relations, and business-aligned HR strategy.
Earlier in his career, he served for about four years as Human Resources Manager at Coors Brewing Company (MillerCoors) and began his professional HR journey at Burlington Industries, where he worked for approximately four years as Human Resources Manager.
