Hackensack, New Jersey, United States, June 2025 — CQ fluency, a leading provider of culturally relevant language solutions and accessibility services, has announced the appointment of Tameeka Smith as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant milestone in the company’s journey. She succeeds Elisabete Miranda, the company’s Founder, who will now transition to the role of Board Member and Advisor.
Tameeka Smith brings with her an impressive track record of leadership in healthcare, most recently serving as CEO of UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Virginia, where she led the organization to become the fastest-growing managed care company in the state while earning the top quality ranking. Her previous leadership roles at Aetna and TIAA reflect her consistent focus on advancing health equity, growing membership, and ensuring operational excellence. Smith’s personal experience as a former Medicaid beneficiary lends her a powerful, firsthand understanding of the communities CQ fluency serves.
“This transition marks a strategic evolution for CQ fluency as it enters its next chapter of growth and impact,” said Tameeka Smith. “What drew me to CQ is its unwavering belief that care begins with communication—and that language and culture should never be barriers to connection or compassion. I deeply admire the foundation that Elisabete built and the values-driven culture that has powered CQ’s growth. As we look to the future, my focus is on expanding our impact through thoughtful growth and innovation—always putting people first.”
Elisabete Miranda, who founded the company in 2000 and transformed it into a global leader in culturally relevant translation and accessibility, will continue to play an active role on the board. Reflecting on the transition, Miranda stated, “As I transition from my role as CEO, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the journey we’ve taken at CQ fluency. What began as a vision to ensure language and culture are never barriers to care, connection, or opportunity has grown into a thriving, purpose-driven organization. Tameeka brings a deep understanding of our customers, a respect for our mission, and a people-first leadership philosophy that aligns with our values. I have full confidence in her ability to lead CQ fluency into its next chapter of growth and impact.”
As CEO, Smith will be responsible for strengthening CQ fluency’s market position, expanding its capabilities in culturally competent translation and accessibility, and ensuring that the company continues to lead in creating equitable healthcare communication and services for all.
