South Africa, February 2026 — Dean Naidoo has taken on the role of Group Human Resources Director at Gemfields. In this position, he is responsible for the design and implementation of Gemfields’ global and localized human resources strategies across its geographically diverse operations, supporting the group’s commitment to responsible sourcing, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability.
Prior to joining Gemfields, Dean served as Group Human Resources Executive Director – SFP at Merensky, where he was responsible for the full employee lifecycle and HR strategy aligned with organizational objectives, including ESG priorities. His role encompassed workforce planning, talent management, succession planning, executive development, digital HR transformation, and employee engagement across complex operating environments.
Earlier, Dean held the position of Chief People Officer at Zutari, where he led people strategy across Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia following the firm’s demerger from Aurecon. He played a key role in shaping group-wide HR strategy across engineering, infrastructure, advisory, and ESG-focused operations, contributing to Zutari’s recognition as an employer of choice across multiple markets.
Dean previously spent several years at Aurecon as Chief People Officer for Africa and the Middle East, sitting on the global leadership team and leading HR strategy across more than 26 countries. His earlier career includes senior HR leadership roles at Redis Afrika and Momentum, where he built deep expertise in organizational transformation, executive leadership development, labour relations, and cross-border human capital management.
With more than two decades of global HR leadership experience spanning Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, Dean brings a strong strategic and purpose-driven approach to his new role at Gemfields.
