Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, June 2025 – Dr. Tooba Modassir has been appointed as the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at Citi for India and the Indian Subcontinent, which includes Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In addition to this pivotal leadership role, she will also serve as Banking HR Advisor for the region, overseeing HR operations and strategy for over 34,000 employees. Dr. Modassir will work in close collaboration with Arun Mirchandani, Asia South Cluster and Banking HR Head at Citi, to lead Citi’s people strategy across these key markets.
Dr. Modassir has been with Citi since 2008, holding numerous influential positions. Most recently, she was the CHRO for Citi Malaysia, where she led HR strategy across Citibank Berhad, Citi Labuan, and the Citi Solution Centres. Her earlier roles include Head of Talent, Performance Management, Learning, and Diversity & Inclusion for Citi South Asia, as well as HR Business Partner for both Retail and Institutional Banking in India.
Dr. Modassir has also led initiatives as Digital Learning & Engagement Lead for Asia Pacific, driving transformation in learning technologies and collaborative knowledge sharing. Her deep understanding of regional dynamics, talent strategy, and cultural inclusion has been vital in shaping Citi’s progressive HR agenda across functions and geographies.
She began her HR career with Wipro Technologies, working in talent engagement and development in the product engineering space.
Dr. Modassir holds a Ph.D. in Human Resource Development from Goa University, where she focused on Gender Diversity & Talent Management, and an MBA in Human Resources from Goa Institute of Management.
