In his new role, Gaurav will lead the strategic evolution of Axis Bank’s virtual banking ecosystem, overseeing customer engagement, digital relationship management, AI-powered sales transformation, and next-generation customer experience initiatives. His appointment comes at a time when banks are increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence, automation, and digital platforms to redefine customer interactions and financial services delivery.

Prior to this elevation, Gaurav served as Executive Vice President & Head – Axis Virtual Centre, where he played a pivotal role in transforming the bank’s virtual relationship management model. Under his leadership, the Axis Virtual Centre expanded its reach to serve millions of customers while driving innovation through Agentic AI, Generative AI, voicebots, real-time customer assistance, quality monitoring systems, and omnichannel engagement platforms. He has been instrumental in implementing AI-powered tele-sales initiatives across teams comprising more than 5,000 agents while strengthening virtual relationship management capabilities serving over three million customers.

Earlier, Gaurav led Third Party Products at Axis Bank, where he successfully expanded bancassurance partnerships, strengthened digital distribution capabilities, and helped transform traditional sales processes into end-to-end digital customer journeys. He also headed the bank’s Life Insurance & Asset Insurance business, driving growth across multiple customer channels and developing innovative insurance propositions.

One of the most impactful chapters of his career came as Head – M&A, Investments & Subsidiary Strategy at Axis Bank. In this role, he designed and executed the bank’s inorganic growth strategy, managed a portfolio of strategic investments across fintech, payments, insurance, and allied financial services, and led landmark transactions including the acquisition and integration of Freecharge. He also evaluated multiple strategic opportunities across insurance, asset management, fintech, and NBFC sectors, helping strengthen Axis Bank’s long-term growth agenda.

Before joining Axis Bank’s strategy leadership team, Gaurav held various corporate strategy positions within the organization, where he was responsible for medium and long-term strategic planning, investment management, and M&A transactions. Earlier, he worked with Axis Capital and ICICI Bank in investment banking roles, advising on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions across banking, financial services, logistics, industrials, and energy sectors.

An alumnus of Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, Gaurav earned his MBA in Finance and has built an impressive career at the intersection of strategy, technology, banking, and innovation.

His promotion reflects Axis Bank’s commitment to strengthening its leadership capabilities in digital banking and AI-driven customer engagement as the institution continues to accelerate its transformation into a future-ready financial services organization.
