Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, April 2026 – Gautam Birhade has joined Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited as Director (Projects), strengthening the leadership team overseeing one of India’s most critical urban infrastructure initiatives.
In his new role, Gautam will play a pivotal role in driving execution excellence, accelerating project delivery, and ensuring the successful implementation of large-scale metro infrastructure projects, particularly the landmark Mumbai Metro Line-3 corridor.
The Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ corridor) is a transformative 33.5 km fully underground project aimed at decongesting traffic, enhancing connectivity, and improving urban mobility in India’s financial capital. Designed to serve over 16 lakh commuters daily, the project will connect key business districts, educational institutions, and transport hubs, significantly boosting the city’s public transport ecosystem.
Prior to joining MMRC, Gautam served as Executive Director at Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited, where he led critical underground metro projects, including the Swargate–Katraj corridor, while also handling procurement and contracts responsibilities.
Earlier, he was Chief Engineer (Construction Projects) at Indian Railways, where he successfully led the execution and commissioning of nearly 60 km of new and third-line railway projects, demonstrating strong capabilities in large-scale infrastructure delivery and project management.
During his extensive tenure with Maha-Metro, he served as Executive Director (Civil), where he played a key role in delivering metro viaducts, stations, and major infrastructure packages from foundation to commissioning, contributing to the successful rollout of Pune Metro corridors.
With over three decades of experience in railways and metro infrastructure, Gautam has built deep expertise across civil engineering, project execution, bridge design, and transportation infrastructure development, making him a seasoned leader in India’s mobility transformation journey.
