London, England, United Kingdom, March 2025 – Navantia UK has appointed Jim McHarg as its new Chief People Officer, marking a significant leadership addition as the company advances its role in the UK’s defence and offshore wind sectors. In his new role, McHarg will lead the people and culture strategy to support Navantia UK’s continued growth and contribution to the UK’s National Shipbuilding Strategy and Net Zero Strategy.
Prior to this appointment, Jim McHarg served as Human Resources Director at Babcock International Group, where he played a critical role in supporting the Marine & Engineering Systems business across the UK. His work at Babcock was instrumental in developing workforce strategies aligned with complex engineering operations.

Before that, McHarg was Head of Human Resources at the University of Glasgow’s College of Social Sciences, where he helped drive HR transformation and institutional development. Earlier, he served as Group Human Resources Director at Trillium Flow Technologies, managing global people strategies following the company’s demerger from The Weir Group.
McHarg also held several senior HR roles during his nearly nine-year tenure at The Weir Group, including Divisional HR Director, HR Director for Organisational Development, and Group Head of Learning. He previously worked at BAE Systems, Network Rail, and Clyde Blowers Capital, where he held operational and leadership roles, demonstrating a rare blend of technical and HR experience.
