With over 35 years of leadership, Marklew’s journey highlights a commitment to innovation and sustainability. Marklew has been a key figure in evolving the HR landscape to support innovative crop development for sustainable food sources across the tropics.
Marklew’s tenure at Tropic began in September 2022 as VP of Human Resources, where she spent 1 year and 9 months. She contributed significantly to Tropic’s mission of developing innovative crop varieties for sustainable food sources in the tropics, driving initiatives as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
Before Tropic, Karen Marklew amassed a wealth of experience, including pivotal roles at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). During her 26-year tenure at GSK, Marklew served as the Senior Director of Human Resources, leading strategic partnerships and organizational development initiatives crucial to GSK’s pharmaceutical innovation.
Preceding her role as Senior Director, Marklew spearheaded the Global Induction department, designing and implementing renowned induction programs. Her journey at GSK began as a Senior Recruitment Manager, where she established and refined the R&D scientific recruitment function in the UK, acquiring over 800 scientists, from graduates to senior vice presidents.
Prior to GSK, Marklew held positions at Reed and Hestair Management Services, demonstrating her skills in recruitment and managerial roles.
