Albany Creek, Queensland, Australia, August 2024 – Leigh Sorensen has taken on the role of Director People and Capability – Marine Rescue Queensland at the Queensland Police Service. In this position, Leigh will oversee the strategic development and management of human resources, focusing on enhancing the capabilities of the Marine Rescue teams to better serve Queensland’s coastal communities.
Career Journey: Prior to joining Queensland Police Service, Leigh served as the Manager Organisational Resilience at the Department of Resources (Queensland) for over a year, where Leigh was instrumental in enhancing organizational resilience and strategic planning initiatives.
Leigh also held the role of Executive Manager Culture Change and Engagement – Workforce/People Experience at the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services for nearly seven years, where Leigh led significant cultural transformation efforts, fostering engagement and improving workforce experiences across the department.
Before that, Leigh was a Corporate Human Resource and Industrial Relations Specialist at the Queensland Government for nearly four years, where Leigh specialized in HR strategies and industrial relations, contributing to the broader corporate human resources framework.
In addition to these roles, Leigh has over a decade of experience in various HR and leadership positions at organizations such as Woolworths Group and Multicultural Australia, where Leigh focused on operational excellence, social inclusion, and strategic workforce transitions.
