Mahesh Murthy Appointed as Chief Technology Officer at Waaree Group

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, October 2025 — Mahesh Murthy has joined Waaree Group as Chief Technology Officer, bringing with him over two decades of expertise in clean energy, technology management, and innovation. In his new role, he will spearhead Waaree’s technology strategy, advancing sustainable energy solutions and driving innovation in hydrogen technologies, fuel cells, energy storage, and advanced materials.

Before joining Waaree Group, Mahesh served as an Independent Consultant and Contractor, where he contributed to global energy transition initiatives, including green hydrogen projects and PEM electrolyser development with Fortescue. His consulting expertise strengthened international renewable energy efforts and positioned him as a recognized thought leader in emerging clean technologies.

Earlier, Mahesh was Chief Technology Officer at Thermax Limited, where he led the development of technologies promoting clean energy, water, and air solutions. Prior to that, as Technology Leader at Tata Group Technology & Innovation Office (Tata Sons Limited), he played a pivotal role in driving group-wide energy transition initiatives focused on hydrogen, fuel cells, energy storage, and advanced materials.

Mahesh also built a strong foundation at W. L. Gore & Associates, where over 18 years he held multiple leadership roles in technology and new product development, business development, and product innovation. His work included the development and commercialization of fuel cell membranes, energy storage solutions, and advanced components for global automotive and industrial applications.

An accomplished academic, Mahesh earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Carolina, a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Illinois University, and a B.Tech in Electrochemistry from the Central Electrochemical Research Institute, India. He also holds an MBA from the University of Delaware, equipping him with a unique blend of technical and business expertise to accelerate Waaree Group’s innovation and sustainability roadmap.

Matthew Breitfelder is Partner and Global Head of Human Capital at Apollo, where he focuses on attracting extraordinary talent to the firm and creating an innovative, inclusive, high-performance culture that brings out the best in Apollo’s people. Matt leads Apollo’s recruiting, talent management, compensation, succession planning, citizenship, employee relations, development, and culture work. He is also a member of the firm’s Leadership Team. Matt is committed to expanding opportunities across Apollo’s workplace, marketplace, and communities. Prior to joining Apollo, Matt was Chief Talent Officer at BlackRock as well as a member of the Operating Committee. Previously, he held strategy, talent, and innovation roles at Mastercard, PwC, and CEB/Gartner.

Matt holds a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the boards of the Lumina Foundation, the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society program, the Milken Institute’s Inclusive Capitalism initiative, and Georgetown University’s initiative on AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work. He is the co-author of numerous Harvard Business School case studies and articles on leadership. Matt has been recognized as a Top Global CHRO multiple times by n2Growth and Stanford Business School.
