New York, United States, April 2026 — Nicholas Koukoumelidis has joined Barclays as Chief Financial Officer of Barclays Bank PLC. His appointment marks a significant leadership move for the bank, bringing in a seasoned finance executive with extensive experience across financial planning, institutional banking, global markets, consumer banking, and international finance leadership.
Before joining Barclays, Nicholas Koukoumelidis built a distinguished career at Citi, where he spent more than 25 years in a series of senior finance leadership roles. Most recently, he served as Global Head – Financial Planning & Analysis. Prior to that, he held the role of Chief Financial Officer | Banking & International, Client and Legacy Franchises, and earlier served as Chief Financial Officer | Institutional Clients Group. These assignments positioned him at the heart of financial leadership for major global banking businesses and strengthened his profile as a senior executive with broad strategic and operational finance expertise.
Earlier at Citi, he was CFO – Global Markets & Securities Services, where he gained further exposure to one of the most complex and significant financial segments within the institution. He also served as CFO – Citi Japan, adding important international leadership experience in a major financial market. Before that, he held the role of Head, Financial Planning & Analysis, Institutional Clients Group, followed by CFO – US Consumer and Commercial Banking, and Managing Director – Head, Corporate Planning & Analysis. These positions reflect a sustained career progression across planning, analysis, banking, markets, and enterprise-level finance functions.
A major phase of his earlier career at Citi was spent as CFO – Citi Private Bank, a role he held for more than a decade. This long tenure further highlights his deep experience in senior finance leadership within large and complex banking businesses. Prior to joining Citi, he worked as Senior Business Analyst at SPAR Group, Inc. and earlier as Senior Fixed Income Analyst at Reuters, building a strong analytical and market-focused foundation early in his career.
His move to Barclays brings to the bank a finance leader with deep experience across private banking, consumer and commercial banking, institutional clients, global markets, securities services, corporate planning, and international operations. With leadership exposure across New York, Tokyo, and other global markets, Nicholas Koukoumelidis adds considerable depth to the finance function at Barclays Bank PLC.
