Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, January 2025 – Priya Cherian has joined Walmart IDC as the Head of HR, where she will lead the company’s human resources strategy to drive growth and innovation across its India operations. In this role, Priya will oversee critical HR functions, including talent management, leadership development, and fostering a strong company culture. With her extensive HR leadership experience, Priya is well-positioned to contribute significantly to Walmart’s mission of empowering talent and driving operational excellence in the region.
Priya Cherian brings an impressive track record of over two decades in human resources. Before joining Walmart IDC, she served as the Global Head of HR at PayU, where she successfully led HR functions across India, Latam, EMEA, and SEA, contributing to the organization’s scaling through organic and inorganic growth strategies. She drove leadership development, M&A activities, and regulatory compliance initiatives across diverse regions.
Prior to PayU, Priya was the HR Head – APAC & Middle East at Alibaba.com, where she played a pivotal role in scaling operations across 19 countries, including Singapore, Taiwan, and India. She also led the HR team in executing M&A activities and maintaining a balance between Alibaba’s global values and regional nuances.
Earlier in her career, Priya served as the Director of Human Resources at Flipkart, where she worked closely with the founder to formalize and drive the talent strategy for eKart. Her contributions included scaling the organization by 65% within a year and building a strong leadership pipeline.
Her tenure at Yahoo as HR Director saw her leading HR operations in India and other global locations, achieving significant growth, and spearheading initiatives like succession planning and talent development. She received the prestigious Yahoo Ratna Award for her exemplary contributions.
Priya’s early career includes impactful roles at WorkflowOne, Reynolds & Reynolds, and other organizations, where she demonstrated expertise in talent acquisition, change management, and leadership development.
