Birmingham, England, United Kingdom, September 2024 – Rebecca Brookes has taken on the role of Head of Learning, Engagement, Access, and Participation (LEAP) at Birmingham Royal Ballet. In her new position, Rebecca will lead the LEAP department, managing various programs designed to inspire and engage communities through ballet and arts education. Her focus will be on expanding access to dance and creative opportunities for individuals who may not typically engage with ballet, while also overseeing the Dance Track Talent Identification and Training Programme, as well as other performance and educational projects.
Before stepping into this role, Rebecca served as the Acting Head of LEAP for over a year, where she played a crucial role in coordinating projects that enriched both the local community and national audiences through dance. She managed programs such as Dance Track, Ballet Training, and performance projects like Dreams, alongside schools and community collaborations.
Rebecca’s journey with Birmingham Royal Ballet began in 2015 when she joined as Learning and Participation Manager. In this role, she focused on creating opportunities for people to experience ballet, particularly for underrepresented communities. Her passion for changing lives through dance was evident in her work, where she managed partnerships with schools, facilitated community projects, and taught ballet classes.
Prior to her work with Birmingham Royal Ballet, Rebecca was the Principal and Choreographer at Brookes School of Performing Arts, which she founded in 2005. She successfully trained students in ballet, tap, acrobatics, and modern/jazz, and led them in national competitions and performances.
