Simon Pakenham-Walsh has recently been appointed as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at River Island, one of the UK’s most iconic retail brands.
With over two decades of experience in technology and digital transformation, Pakenham-Walsh is set to bring his vast expertise to River Island, having begun his role in March 2024. “I am equally very excited and privileged to have been given the opportunity to take on my next challenge as CIO for another amazing, iconic retail brand – River Island,” Pakenham-Walsh shared enthusiastically about his new position.
Previously, Pakenham-Walsh served as the Vice President of Consumer Technology at Wolverine Worldwide for five months, where he honed his skills in e-commerce and technology leadership. Before Wolverine, he was the Chief Technology Officer at Sweaty Betty for nearly three years, contributing significantly to their technological advancements. His role as the Digital and Retail Technology Director at Arcadia Group Ltd further solidified his reputation, where he led digital transformations across seven international brands, including Topshop and Dorothy Perkins.
His earlier roles include a substantial tenure as the CIO for Sainsbury’s Food, where he oversaw all aspects of technology for the company’s food division. His strategic leadership at Sainsbury’s followed significant contributions to technology and operations at Sky as Head of Technology and at Royal Mail as an eBusiness Programme Manager.
Over the years, Simon Pakenham-Walsh has also made impactful contributions to companies like Detica and IBM, where he focused on project management and business consulting. His career encompasses major projects that have improved business processes and customer interactions across various sectors.
