Tyler Broadbent Appointed as Chief Human Resources Officer at SME Steel

West Jordan, Utah, United States, May 2025 – Tyler Broadbent has joined SME Steel as the new Chief Human Resources Officer, bringing with him a wealth of expertise in labor relations, HR transformation, and workforce optimization. In his new role, Tyler will be leading the entire HR and administrative function across all SME Industries, focusing on delivering cost-effective, scalable HR models that drive bottom-line results.

Prior to this appointment, Tyler served as VP – HR & Labor Relations at SME Steel, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s labor strategy and strengthening enterprise-wide HR operations. His leadership in that role helped build a strong foundation for his transition to CHRO.

Before joining SME, Tyler spent over five years at L3Harris Technologies, first as International Labor Relations Manager and later as Principal – International Labor Relations. In these roles, he led global labor activities, served as first-chair negotiator, managed arbitration and grievance proceedings, and introduced enterprise-wide labor education programs. He was a trusted advisor to field HR teams and senior leadership on U.S. labor law and strategic labor initiatives.

Tyler’s earlier experience includes a four-year tenure at Honeywell, where he held progressively senior HR roles, including HR Site Leader and Senior HR Generalist. He provided end-to-end HRBP support across multiple sites and led key initiatives in grievance management, compensation planning, site consolidation, and talent performance.

He began his HR journey with early roles at Utah State University and Olsen Builders, bringing a unique combination of strategic HR thinking and operational execution to all his leadership roles.

Matthew Breitfelder is Partner and Global Head of Human Capital at Apollo, where he focuses on attracting extraordinary talent to the firm and creating an innovative, inclusive, high-performance culture that brings out the best in Apollo’s people. Matt leads Apollo’s recruiting, talent management, compensation, succession planning, citizenship, employee relations, development, and culture work. Prior to joining Apollo, Matt was Chief Talent Officer at BlackRock as well as a member of the Operating Committee. Previously, he held strategy, talent, and innovation roles at Mastercard, PwC, and CEB/Gartner.

Matt holds a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the boards of the Lumina Foundation, the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society program, the Milken Institute’s Inclusive Capitalism initiative, and Georgetown University’s initiative on AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work. He is the co-author of numerous Harvard Business School case studies and articles on leadership. Matt has been recognized as a Top Global CHRO multiple times by n2Growth and Stanford Business School.
