UMass Amherst Appoints Sheri Neshiem as Vice Chancellor and Chief Human Resources Officer

Amherst, Massachusetts – Chancellor Javier Reyes of UMass Amherst has announced the appointment of Sheri Neshiem as the Vice Chancellor and Chief Human Resources Officer. The appointment, made following a national search, reflects Neshiem’s extensive experience and leadership in human resources within higher education and government sectors.

With over 30 years of experience in human resources, Neshiem brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role. Currently serving as the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources at the University of South Florida, Neshiem has demonstrated a proven track record in fostering organizational growth, employee engagement, and operational excellence.

Neshiem’s background includes significant leadership roles at institutions such as Saint Leo University and the Argosy University System. She also spent six years at the University of South Florida before joining UMass Amherst. Additionally, Neshiem is a proud U.S. Air Force veteran and currently serves as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Originally from Norwich, Connecticut, Neshiem is eager to return to her New England roots and contribute to the UMass Amherst community. She holds a bachelor’s degree in management studies from the University of Maryland University College, Asian Division, and a master’s degree in Management from Troy University in Alabama.

Chancellor Reyes expressed his gratitude to the search advisory committee, chaired by Christopher Misra, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and CIO, for their diligent efforts in the selection process. The committee comprised various members representing different sectors of the university community, including athletics, academic personnel, student government, and staff.

Neshiem’s appointment reflects UMass Amherst’s commitment to building high-performing teams that support the university’s mission. Her expertise in talent recruitment, development, and retention, coupled with her dedication to creating an inclusive environment, aligns with the university’s values and goals.

Sheri Neshiem will officially join the UMass Amherst leadership team on July 1st, marking a significant milestone in the university’s ongoing commitment to excellence in human resources and organizational effectiveness.
