Gurugram, Haryana, India, June 2026 – Varun Bansal has taken on expanded responsibilities as Head of IT – India & APAC at Bata India Limited, further strengthening his leadership role within the organization. In his expanded mandate, he now oversees technology strategy and operations across India and the Asia-Pacific region, supporting Bata’s retail, manufacturing, supply chain, warehousing, and digital commerce operations across multiple countries.
As Regional CIO for India and APAC, Bansal is responsible for driving digital transformation, operational resilience, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, infrastructure, cloud operations, governance, audits, vendor management, and technology investments. His leadership supports more than 3,500 stores, 18 warehouses and distribution centers, six factories, and technology teams spread across India and the wider APAC region, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and China.
Before assuming his expanded regional responsibilities at Bata India Limited, Varun Bansal had already been serving as Vice President and Head of IT for the organization. During this period, he played a critical role in modernizing technology platforms, strengthening operational capabilities, and supporting Bata’s retail and digital transformation initiatives. His work focused on building scalable technology ecosystems capable of supporting one of the region’s most recognized retail and footwear brands.
Prior to joining Bata, Bansal spent nearly seven years with Philips, where he served as Head of IT for the India Sub-Continent and also acted as Lead IT Business Partner for Enabling Functions across Asia Pacific. He led numerous transformation initiatives, including SAP implementations, e-commerce platform deployments, GST and e-invoicing solutions, digital automation programs, robotics process automation initiatives, customer service enhancements, and large-scale business transformation projects supporting commercial, manufacturing, R&D, and shared services operations.
Earlier, he served as Senior Manager and Head of IT at Kohler Co., overseeing technology operations for India and Sub-Saharan Africa. In this leadership role, he partnered closely with business functions including supply chain, finance, sales, and marketing while leading enterprise-wide technology initiatives. His achievements included greenfield SAP implementations, CRM deployments, and major technology modernization programs that supported business expansion and operational excellence.
Before Kohler, Bansal spent nearly five years with Stryker, progressing into a business IT leadership role. He managed IT strategy, budgeting, business partnerships, infrastructure programs, application development initiatives, and digital transformation projects supporting India operations and global teams. His contributions included mobile technology deployments, innovation programs, reporting platforms, and critical infrastructure initiatives that enhanced business performance and operational efficiency.
Bansal began his professional journey with Infosys Limited, where he spent more than five years building expertise across software development, testing, project management, client engagement, solution design, and technology leadership. Working extensively with global clients, including British Telecom, he developed the strong technical and business foundation that would later support his rise into senior technology leadership roles across multinational organizations.
Varun Bansal holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) through the Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Working Executives program from the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM Lucknow). His educational background combines management expertise with extensive technology leadership experience gained across global organizations.
