Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India – September 2024 – Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has appointed David Stone as the new Chief Executive Officer of Coal Mines.
In this role, David will oversee the company’s coal mining operations, which are critical to the supply chain for its thermal power plants in Jharsuguda and Lanjigarh (Odisha) and Korba (Chhattisgarh). His leadership will focus on optimizing resource efficiency through innovative strategies and sustainable mining practices.
David brings over 30 years of global experience in managing and transforming resource-based businesses, having held senior positions at Anglo American, Xstrata, and Glencore. His expertise will be pivotal in enhancing Vedanta’s backward integration, which secures a stable coal supply to reduce production costs and drive the company’s sustainability goals.
Vedanta operates five coal mines with a combined capacity of 40 million tonnes per annum. As part of its growth strategy, the company is leveraging technology and innovation to ensure maximum efficiency and environmental responsibility in its mining operations.
