Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, October 2025 – Welspun Corp Limited (WCL), the flagship company of Welspun World and a global leader in line pipes and home solutions, has announced the appointment of Rakesh Mehta as its new Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO). In this strategic leadership role, Rakesh will oversee the organization’s people strategy, leadership development, and cultural transformation initiatives as the company continues to expand its diversified business portfolio across global markets.
With more than three decades of human resources leadership experience across manufacturing, energy, and automotive sectors, Rakesh brings a strong blend of strategic vision and operational excellence. He has a proven track record in driving HR transformation, building future-ready organizations, and enabling business growth through robust talent and capability frameworks.
Before joining Welspun Corp, Rakesh Mehta served as CHRO & Executive Director at Uno Minda, where he played a pivotal role in leading the company’s HR transformation, strengthening leadership pipelines, and embedding a performance-driven, people-first culture across the organization.
Prior to that, he held the position of Executive Vice President & Head – HR at JSW Energy Ltd, where he spearheaded several award-winning initiatives that positioned the company among India’s Top 25 Best Workplaces in Manufacturing (2024) by Great Place to Work. Under his leadership, JSW Energy earned the Golden Peacock HR Excellence Award (2021) and the Golden Peacock Health & Safety Award (2021) for its commitment to employee well-being and organizational excellence.
Earlier in his career, Rakesh worked with Reliance Industries Limited as Senior Vice President & Head HR (Refining Business Cluster), leading human resources for one of the world’s largest refining operations in Jamnagar, Gujarat. His tenure was marked by strong alignment of HR strategy with business transformation initiatives.
He also spent over eight years with General Motors, where he served as Director – Human Resources and previously as General Manager – HR, driving workforce integration, industrial relations, and people development at the Vadodara facility. Rakesh’s earlier career includes impactful HR leadership roles at Asian Paints, Guardian Industries, Crompton Greaves, and Rallis India Ltd, where he gained deep expertise in industrial relations, HR operations, and policy design.
Rakesh is an alumnus of the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune, where he earned his Master’s in Personnel Management (MPM). He also holds a law degree from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, which adds depth to his understanding of labor and employment frameworks.
