Austin, Texas, United States, July 2026 — Whataburger has announced the appointment of Dr. Rudra Murthy as Group Director – Infrastructure & Information Security, strengthening its technology leadership with a globally recognized cybersecurity and information security executive. Bringing more than 23 years of experience across cybersecurity, enterprise infrastructure, governance, risk and compliance, digital transformation, and information security strategy, Dr. Murthy will lead Whataburger’s infrastructure and information security functions, driving resilient technology operations, cyber defense, and enterprise security innovation across the organization.
Before joining Whataburger, Dr. Murthy served at Costco Wholesale in Enterprise Cyber Security Strategy and Architecture, where he helped shape enterprise-wide cybersecurity strategies, security architecture, and risk management initiatives supporting one of the world’s largest retail organizations. Prior to Costco, he spent more than six years with Amazon, serving most recently as Global Governance, Risk & Compliance Head. In this role, he led the implementation of a federated global security governance program across Amazon’s worldwide non-AWS businesses, overseeing governance frameworks, mergers and acquisitions security integration, regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, security policy architecture, and global cybersecurity programs. Earlier at Amazon, he served as Chief Information Security Officer (Amazon Pay India), where he established and strengthened cybersecurity capabilities for one of India’s leading digital payments platforms.
Earlier in his distinguished career, Dr. Murthy served as Chief Information Security Officer – Digital India with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, where he played a transformative role in developing one of the world’s largest national cybersecurity and cybercrime programs. He was instrumental in shaping the country’s information security framework, supporting the establishment of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), advancing national cybercrime prevention initiatives, and contributing to the design of India’s integrated emergency response system. Prior to this, he served as Chief Information Security Officer – UIDAI at Aujas Networks Pvt. Ltd., where he helped establish cybersecurity frameworks for the Aadhaar ecosystem, including security standards for biometric identity management, financial inclusion, and nationwide digital identity infrastructure.
Dr. Murthy’s career also includes leadership positions with IBM as Information Security Advisor, Mphasis as Senior Principal Architect, Avaya as Information Security Expert, SumTotal Systems as Senior Datacenter Administrator, and Solix Technologies as Systems Administrator. Throughout these roles, he developed deep expertise in enterprise architecture, infrastructure security, security operations, regulatory compliance, cyber resilience, disaster recovery, cloud security, data center management, and large-scale digital transformation, building a reputation for delivering secure technology solutions across global enterprises.
With more than two decades of global leadership experience, Dr. Murthy has established himself as a highly respected authority in cybersecurity, infrastructure, governance, risk management, and enterprise security strategy.
