Hull, England – October 2024 – Sarah Wilson steps into her new role as Chief Operating Officer at the University of Hull, following an impactful tenure as the Chief People Officer. After 20 years of dedicated service as an HR practitioner, Sarah embarks on this new journey to lead operational strategies for the university. Acknowledging the challenges currently faced by the higher education sector, Sarah expressed optimism, particularly due to the excellent team she has inherited from outgoing COO, Neil Robinson.
Reflecting on her career transition, Sarah shared her excitement about this new chapter but also recognized the difficulty of stepping away from a profession she has deeply loved. Her commitment to the university and passion for driving positive change will remain at the forefront as she continues to guide the institution toward future success.
Sarah Wilson’s time at the University of Hull began in March 2021 when she took on the role of Chief People Officer. Over the course of more than three years, Sarah transformed the university’s people strategy, enhancing employee engagement and shaping HR initiatives that supported the university’s overall mission. Her leadership was critical in driving change, and she built strong relationships across the organization.
Prior to joining the University of Hull, Sarah spent nearly four years as the Head of People Services at Humberside Police, where she led large-scale HR operations. Her responsibilities spanned people management and service delivery, which contributed significantly to the organization’s performance.
Before that, Sarah held the role of Head of Operational HR Services for Humberside Police & South Yorkshire Police for five years. Her time in this dual role further solidified her reputation as a skilled HR leader, where she successfully managed operational HR services across two critical organizations.
