Trent University Reappoints Stephanie Williams as Vice-President, Human Resources for a Second Term

Trent University has proudly announced the reappointment of Stephanie Williams to her second consecutive five-year term as Vice-President, Human Resources, starting July 1, 2025. This announcement underscores her pivotal role in steering the University through numerous critical transitions and initiatives.

Dr. Leo Groarke, President and Vice-Chancellor of Trent University, praised VP Williams’ contributions: “The broad functions within Stephanie’s purview have thrived under her leadership. Her accomplishments include a highly effective COVID pandemic response, the transition of Trent’s pensions to the newly created University Pension Plan, and the adoption of equity, diversity, and inclusion recommendations. Personally, I have greatly valued her role as a strategic advisor to me as president, the Board, and the entire leadership team.”

Stephanie Williams’ tenure at Trent spans over two decades, during which she has held increasingly significant roles within the University. Her leadership has been instrumental in various key initiatives, notably the seamless transition of Trent’s pensions to the University Pension Plan Ontario, enhancing Trent’s financial stability and employee benefits.

In her expanded role, VP Williams will continue to manage Human Resources and Student Services, with added responsibilities for Campus Safety; Risk Management; Equity, Diversity & Accessibility; and Environmental Health & Safety. Her leadership in fostering positive union relationships and advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion through strategic hires, such as the inaugural director of EDI, has significantly propelled Trent’s mission to nurture an inclusive campus environment.

“I am honoured to be reappointed to this position,” VP Williams remarked. “After more than 20 years at Trent, this has been the most rewarding role I have held. I am excited about the future of the institution and what we will accomplish in the years ahead with our exceptional team.”
