New York, United States, July 2026 — Coinbase has appointed Michael Sikorski as its Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). In his new role, he will lead the company’s global cybersecurity strategy, strengthening information security, cyber resilience, threat intelligence, and security operations as Coinbase continues to advance its mission of building the most trusted platform for the digital asset economy.
Michael brings more than two decades of distinguished leadership experience in cybersecurity, threat intelligence, malware analysis, artificial intelligence, incident response, and cyber defense. Widely recognized as one of the industry’s foremost cybersecurity experts, he has built an exceptional career leading world-class security organizations while helping governments and enterprises defend against some of the world’s most sophisticated cyber threats.
Prior to joining Coinbase, Michael served as Chief Technology Officer & Vice President of Engineering at Palo Alto Networks Unit 42, where he led the engineering, product, and threat intelligence organizations. During his tenure, he transformed Unit 42 into an industry-leading cybersecurity business by leveraging AI-driven automation, modernizing threat intelligence capabilities, and developing innovative digital platforms that significantly enhanced incident response and cyber defense operations. He also became a recognized industry authority on AI security, advising executive leaders and government agencies on emerging cyber threats and resilient security strategies.
Earlier, Michael held senior leadership positions at Mandiant and FireEye, where he led the renowned FLARE (FireEye Labs Advanced Reverse Engineering) team and played a pivotal role in advancing malware research, threat intelligence, and incident response capabilities. He contributed to several landmark cybersecurity investigations, including the discovery and analysis of the SolarWinds supply chain compromise, and helped establish globally recognized threat research programs that continue to shape the cybersecurity industry.
His distinguished career also includes technical and leadership roles at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and the National Security Agency (NSA), where he worked on advanced network defense, vulnerability research, and cyber intelligence initiatives. Alongside his corporate leadership, Michael continues to serve as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University, teaching malware analysis and reverse engineering, while also contributing to the cybersecurity ecosystem through board positions with the Cyber Threat Alliance and Trinity Cyber.
