Allyson Witherspoon Joins General Motors as Chief Marketing Officer for Buick and GMC

Detroit, Michigan, United States | July 2026: General Motors (GM) has appointed Allyson Witherspoon as Chief Marketing Officer for Buick and GMC, bringing one of the automotive industry’s most accomplished global marketing leaders into its senior leadership team. In her new role, she will lead the marketing strategy for both iconic American brands, driving brand growth, customer engagement, product positioning, digital marketing, and go-to-market execution as Buick and GMC continue their transformation for the next generation of mobility.

As Chief Marketing Officer, Allyson will partner closely with GM’s leadership team and dealer network to strengthen brand equity, elevate customer experiences, accelerate digital engagement, and showcase the technologies, innovation, premium capability, and adventure-focused positioning that define both Buick and GMC.

Prior to joining General Motors, Allyson spent more than nine years with Nissan Motor Corporation, where she most recently served as Chief Marketing Officer and Global Brand Advisor. In this role, she led Nissan’s global brand and marketing transformation, overseeing more than US$1.2 billion in annual marketing investment while driving AI-powered marketing transformation, CRM modernization, customer experience innovation, and operational improvements that significantly enhanced efficiency, customer engagement, and brand performance across global markets.

Earlier, she served as Corporate Vice President, Global Brand and Marketing, leading global brand strategy across more than 90 international markets while simultaneously serving as U.S. Chief Marketing Officer. She previously held the position of U.S. Chief Marketing Officer, where she directed over US$1 billion in marketing investments, led more than 20 vehicle launches, managed major sponsorships including the NCAA and Super Bowl campaigns, and successfully navigated marketing transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic and global supply chain disruptions.

She also served as General Manager, Global Brand Engagement, leading worldwide brand communications, marketing strategy, sponsorships, product positioning, agency transformation, and precision marketing initiatives while regularly presenting global marketing performance to Nissan’s Board of Directors.

Before Nissan, Allyson served as Director of Marketing at INFINITI Motor Company, where she led regional marketing strategy, digital customer experience, dealer marketing partnerships, and communications that contributed to record profitability, sales growth, and market share expansion.

Her earlier career includes senior leadership positions at Havas Worldwide, Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal + Partners, Merkley + Partners, and Ansira, where she built extensive expertise in global brand strategy, integrated marketing communications, customer experience, advertising, digital transformation, agency leadership, and strategic client partnerships across the automotive, retail, consumer goods, and transportation sectors.

Beyond her executive responsibilities, Allyson serves on several prominent industry and academic advisory boards. She is a Board Member of the University of Missouri Trulaske Dean’s Board of Directors, a Board Member of the Amazon Consumer Advertising Board, and a Member of Meta’s Global Client Council, reflecting her continued influence on the future of marketing, digital transformation, and customer engagement.

Throughout a career spanning more than 25 years, Allyson Witherspoon has established herself as one of the automotive industry’s leading marketing executives, with deep expertise in global brand strategy, AI-enabled marketing, digital customer experience, product marketing, commercial transformation, customer loyalty, advertising, sponsorship strategy, and enterprise marketing leadership. Her appointment reinforces General Motors’ commitment to strengthening Buick and GMC through customer-centric innovation and world-class marketing leadership.
