Toronto, Ontario, Canada, February 2025 – Aaron McCarthy has been appointed as Chief Human Resources Officer at Vale Base Metals. In this role, he will lead the company’s global HR strategy, focusing on talent development, workforce planning, employee engagement, and HR transformation to support the organization’s growth and sustainability goals.
McCarthy joins Vale Base Metals after a successful nine-year tenure at Magna International, where he most recently served as Executive Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer. In this capacity, he played a key role in enhancing global HR policies, leading executive coaching initiatives, and driving workforce strategy. Prior to that, he held the position of Vice President of Human Resources, overseeing leadership development, compensation, and benefits programs across the organization.

Before Magna, McCarthy was Vice President, Global Head of People & Safety at Uranium One, where he led HR operations and workforce safety programs across multiple regions. His extensive leadership experience also includes his tenure at Rio Tinto, where he held multiple roles, including Director of Global Recruitment & Support Services, contributing to talent acquisition and HR strategy across various U.S. and Canadian locations.
McCarthy began his HR career at the Labrador Education Authority, where he managed union relations, collective bargaining, and employee engagement strategies across diverse communities. Over the years, he has built a reputation for HR excellence, strategic leadership, and workforce transformation, making him a valuable addition to Vale Base Metals.
