ABB has officially announced the appointment of Morten Wierod as the new Chief Executive Officer, set to take the helm on August 1, 2024. This strategic transition will see Wierod stepping into the role following the retirement of the current CEO, Björn Rosengren, who will step down on July 31, 2024, and officially retire at the end of the year. Norwegian citizen Morten Wierod, 52, emerged as the selected candidate after a comprehensive selection process by the ABB Board of Directors. Wierod, an ABB veteran since 1998, has been a key figure in the company’s executive team since 2019. His current role as President of the Electrification Business Area, along with his prior position as President of the Motion Business Area, showcases his extensive experience and leadership within the company. Wierod holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, emphasizing his deep technical background.
Peter Voser, ABB Chairman, expressed his confidence in Wierod, highlighting his profound understanding of ABB’s business model, expertise in customer segments, and a strong performance record. Voser reaffirmed that under Wierod’s leadership, ABB would continue to advance its priorities, financial goals, and sustainability objectives.
