Appy Gao Joins Invest Hong Kong as Deputy Head of Business/Talent Attraction and Investment Promotion

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, May 2025 – Appy Gao has taken on a new role as Deputy Head of Business/Talent Attraction and Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong. In her new position, she is focused on driving investment and talent mobility between Australia and Hong Kong, contributing to strengthening economic ties and business development across the region.

Prior to this appointment, Appy Gao completed a prestigious fellowship as a BridgeTech Program Candidate at QUT (Queensland University of Technology), where she deepened her expertise in medtech commercialisation and entrepreneurship, gaining valuable networks and insights into Australia’s innovation ecosystem.

Before that, she held the role of Head of Operations at the Australia China Health Accelerator, where she supported cross-border partnerships and strategic development between Australian health startups and the Chinese market.

She also played a key leadership role at Prospection, initially as Head of Commercial and later as Operations & Scale Specialist, managing revenue operations, transformation projects, and stakeholder engagement during a phase of rapid scale-up in the health analytics space.

Earlier, at GenesisCare, she served as Integration and Project Execution Manager and Business Coordination Manager, China, leading strategic health expansion initiatives in the China market and managing cross-functional teams aligned to global oncology growth strategies.

Her experience also includes roles in market entry and investment promotion with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), where she served as Business Development Manager across sectors such as agribusiness, mining technologies, and services, operating from Beijing.

Matthew Breitfelder is Partner and Global Head of Human Capital at Apollo, where he focuses on attracting extraordinary talent to the firm and creating an innovative, inclusive, high-performance culture that brings out the best in Apollo’s people. Matt leads Apollo’s recruiting, talent management, compensation, succession planning, citizenship, employee relations, development, and culture work. He is also a member of the firm’s Leadership Team. Matt is committed to expanding opportunities across Apollo’s workplace, marketplace, and communities. Prior to joining Apollo, Matt was Chief Talent Officer at BlackRock as well as a member of the Operating Committee. Previously, he held strategy, talent, and innovation roles at Mastercard, PwC, and CEB/Gartner.

Matt holds a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the boards of the Lumina Foundation, the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society program, the Milken Institute’s Inclusive Capitalism initiative, and Georgetown University’s initiative on AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work. He is the co-author of numerous Harvard Business School case studies and articles on leadership. Matt has been recognized as a Top Global CHRO multiple times by n2Growth and Stanford Business School.
