Dubai, United Arab Emirates, June 2026 — Dinesh Sharma has joined HSBC International Wealth and Premier Banking (IWPB) as Chief Risk & Compliance Officer (CRCO). The appointment marks a return to the Risk & Compliance function for a leader whose career spans more than two decades across business, risk, and executive leadership roles in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
In his new role, Dinesh will oversee risk and compliance strategy for HSBC’s International Wealth and Premier Banking business, helping the organization navigate evolving client expectations, digital transformation, financial crime risks, regulatory developments, geopolitical uncertainty, and the increasing importance of data, technology, and operational resilience. He has emphasized the importance of building a Risk & Compliance culture that is agile, commercially connected, data-led, and deeply client-centric while supporting sustainable business growth and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and conduct.
Prior to assuming his new position, Dinesh Sharma served as International Wealth & Premier Banking CEO – Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at HSBC, where he led the region’s wealth and premier banking business across multiple markets. During his tenure, he was responsible for driving growth, strengthening customer engagement, and expanding HSBC’s wealth management capabilities across the EMEA region. He also served as Global Chief Commercial Officer (Interim) for International Wealth and Premier Banking, contributing to the development of global commercial and growth strategies for the business.
Before joining HSBC, Dinesh spent more than twenty years with Citi, where he held several senior leadership positions across consumer banking, risk management, and business leadership functions. Most recently, he served as Managing Director and CEO – Consumer Bank, Middle East, leading Citi’s consumer banking franchise across the UAE, Middle East, and North Africa. Under his leadership, the business achieved significant transformation and growth, successfully revitalizing performance and strengthening customer engagement across the region.
Earlier at Citi, Dinesh served as Chief Risk Officer – Consumer Bank EMEA, where he managed credit risk, operational risk, and fraud risk across 23 countries spanning Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He also held the position of Regional Risk Director, CitiFinancial EMEA, overseeing risk management across multiple consumer finance product lines and geographies. These roles established him as one of the region’s most respected leaders in risk governance, risk strategy, and consumer banking risk management.
His earlier career included leadership assignments as Country Risk Head – Citibank Italy, Managing Director – CitiFinancial India, Business Head – Unsecured Lending, and Regional Head – Mortgages and Business Lending in India. Across these roles, he led business transformation initiatives, built and scaled lending businesses, strengthened risk frameworks, and drove sustainable profitability through innovative risk and customer strategies. His experience across business and risk leadership functions provides a unique perspective on balancing growth, customer experience, and prudent risk management.
