J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc., a premier provider of supply chain solutions in North America, has officially named Shelley Simpson as its Chief Executive Officer and President, effective from July 1, 2024. This announcement, made on February 29, 2024, also includes Simpson’s nomination for election to the company’s Board of Directors during the annual shareholders’ meeting in April 2024. Simpson, who has been with the company since August 1, 2022, brings nearly three decades of experience within J.B. Hunt, showcasing a remarkable journey through various executive leadership roles.

The company concurrently announced the retirement of Kirk Thompson, the current Executive Chairman of the Board, and Wayne Garrison, both of whom will transition to Board advisory roles as Honorary Founding Directors. John N. Roberts, III, will take over as Executive Chairman of the Board following Thompson’s departure, continuing the legacy of leadership and strategic foresight.

Johnelle Hunt, co-founder of J.B. Hunt, expressed deep confidence in the new leadership structure, praising the long-term success and vision it brings to the company. The Board’s decision to appoint Simpson and to recognize the contributions of Thompson and Garrison through their new roles reflects a strategic move to bolster the company’s growth, shareholder confidence, and future success.

Simpson’s tenure at J.B. Hunt has been characterized by her innovative approach and commitment to customer value, having played a crucial role in founding Integrated Capacity Solutions (ICS) in 2007 and leading the launch of the J.B. Hunt 360° platform. Her leadership is expected to drive disciplined investments, ensuring the company’s culture and growth mindset continue to thrive.

The retirement of Thompson and Garrison, coupled with the introduction of new independent directors such as Pat Ottensmeyer, signals a shift towards enhancing corporate governance and board independence. This strategic realignment aims to foster a culture of growth, leadership, respect, and success, maintaining the Hunt family’s foundational values while steering J.B. Hunt towards new horizons of innovation and market leadership.

As J.B. Hunt moves forward under Simpson’s leadership, the company is poised to further solidify its position as a leader in the transportation industry, renowned for its highly talented team, innovative solutions, and a steadfast commitment to efficiency and customer value.
