London, United Kingdom – June 2026 – Marks & Spencer (M&S) has appointed John Hunt as Chief Digital and Technology Officer, further strengthening its leadership team as the retailer accelerates its digital transformation and technology-driven growth agenda.
Hunt will join M&S this summer and will lead the company’s Digital, Data and Technology function, overseeing the continued modernization of technology platforms, digital capabilities, data infrastructure, and innovation initiatives that support the retailer’s long-term transformation strategy.
A highly accomplished technology and retail executive, Hunt brings more than three decades of experience spanning technology leadership, digital transformation, supply chain operations, enterprise architecture, and business enablement across major retail organizations in Australia and South Africa.
He joins M&S from Woolworths Group Australia, where he currently serves as Chief Information Officer and Managing Director of Group Enablement. In this role, he has been responsible for leading enterprise-wide technology strategy, digital innovation, operational enablement, and large-scale transformation initiatives across one of Australia’s largest retail groups.
Prior to this position, Hunt served as Chief Information Officer at Woolworths Group, where he led significant technology modernization programs and strengthened the organization’s digital capabilities to support evolving customer expectations and business growth.
Alongside his executive responsibilities, Hunt also serves as a Non-Executive Director at Quantium, a leading data science and artificial intelligence company, providing strategic guidance on technology, analytics, and digital innovation.
Before relocating to Australia, Hunt spent more than 16 years with Woolworths South Africa, where he held several senior leadership roles. These included Chief Information Officer, Senior Executive for Foods Planning, Replenishment and Value Chain, and a series of technology leadership positions covering enterprise architecture, program management, and information systems strategy.
Earlier in his career, he held technology leadership roles with Gap Inc. in the United States and began his professional journey in software development and systems management in South Africa.
Throughout his career, Hunt has developed a reputation for successfully leading large-scale technology organizations, modernizing enterprise systems, enhancing supply chain capabilities, and enabling business transformation through technology and data-driven innovation.
His appointment reflects M&S’s continued commitment to investing in technology, digital capability, and data-led decision making as the retailer seeks to strengthen customer experiences, improve operational efficiency, and drive future growth.
