La Jolla, San Diego, California, October 2024 — Sanford Burnham Prebys, a leading biomedical research institute, is proud to announce the appointment of Michael Jones as its new Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer. In this role, Michael will oversee the institute’s financial operations, ensuring strategic financial planning and support for Sanford Burnham Prebys’ mission of advancing scientific discoveries to improve human health. His extensive experience in financial leadership across academic and research institutions will be pivotal in driving the institute’s fiscal management and future growth.
Before joining Sanford Burnham Prebys, Michael Jones served as Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer at The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for over two years, where he successfully managed the financial health of the institute and contributed to its biomedical innovation efforts.
Prior to his time at The Lundquist Institute, Michael was the Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer at Florida Institute of Technology, where he led financial strategies and operations for the institute during 2021-2022. His leadership in this role was instrumental in supporting the institute’s mission of advancing education and research.
Michael also spent seven years at Keck Graduate Institute as Vice President of Finance & Operations, where he oversaw all finance and operational aspects, ensuring fiscal stability and supporting the institute’s research and education goals.
Earlier in his career, Michael held senior financial roles at California State University, Long Beach, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), and Boeing, where he gained valuable experience in financial analysis, planning, and management.
