New York, United States, January 2026 — Orbis International has appointed Kathleen Sherwin as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition for the global non-profit dedicated to preventing blindness and restoring sight. A globally respected leader, Kathleen brings deep strategic, governance, and advocacy experience that strongly aligns with Orbis’s vision of a world where everyone can access the eye care they need to thrive.
Kathleen believes leadership is a privilege rooted in supporting others to create lasting change. She is deeply committed to achieving impact at scale and sees Orbis as uniquely positioned to meet the growing global demand for equitable and sustainable eye care solutions.
“The need for eye care has never been greater,” Kathleen said. “Orbis is focused on strengthening sustainable health systems through proven approaches—supporting women-led and environmentally conscious eye centers, delivering world-class ophthalmic training both in person and virtually, and empowering local leadership. Working in partnership with governments, health professionals, and communities, we can scale these solutions quickly to meet urgent global needs.”
Prior to joining Orbis, Kathleen served as Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer at Plan International, where she led global strategy, advocacy, external engagement, and organizational transformation across more than 60 countries. During her tenure, she oversaw multiple enterprise-wide initiatives designed to expand impact, diversify revenue, and strengthen Plan’s global influence and sustainability.
Earlier, Kathleen held several senior leadership roles at Women Deliver, including President & CEO (Transition) and Chief Operating Officer, where she guided the organization through a critical period of transformation, governance reform, and growth. She has also served in advisory and board roles with institutions including the World Economic Forum, PMNCH, Generation Unlimited, SheDecides, and the United Nations Foundation, contributing to global policy, health, and gender equity initiatives.
Kathleen’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Orbis. Her strategic vision, global experience, and collaborative leadership are expected to guide the organization as it continues working toward a future where everyone, everywhere, has access to quality eye care and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
