Columbus, Ohio, United States, June 2025 – Peter Renner has been appointed as the Chief Human Resources Officer at the Ohio Department of Public Safety. In his new role, Peter will lead the Department’s human resources strategy and operations, supporting more than 3,500 employees across critical public safety functions including the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, and more.
Peter brings with him over two decades of extensive experience in HR leadership, including transformational roles in state government agencies.
Prior to this appointment, Peter served for over three years as Chief Human Resources Officer and Deputy Director of Employee and Business Services at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. In this capacity, he oversaw HR, labor relations, training, civil rights compliance, facilities and fleet management, and other employee services across the department and its county partner agencies.
Before joining ODJFS, Peter spent over four years at the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, first as Director of Talent Management and then as the State Chief Human Resources Officer and Director of the State HR Division. In these roles, he led statewide HR operations impacting more than 51,000 employees, overseeing key functions including payroll, talent acquisition, employee classification, wellness, and succession planning.
Peter has also held key HR leadership roles across other Ohio state agencies. He served as Director of Human Resources at the Ohio Department of Youth Services, the Ohio Industrial Commission, and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, contributing to employee engagement, training and development, and organizational effectiveness across the state system.
Earlier in his career, Peter built his foundation in operations and HR through management positions at Bed Bath & Beyond and Meijer, where he honed his expertise in customer service, labor relations, and HR administration.
