Belém, Pará, Brazil, July 2026 — Norsk Hydro has appointed Phillip McIntosh as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alunorte, effective July 2026. In his new role, he assumes legal accountability for Alunorte and its port operations, overseeing approximately 2,300 direct employees and 5,000 indirect employees. He will lead one of the world’s largest alumina refineries, with annual production of 5.7 million tonnes of alumina and 0.7 million tonnes of hydrate, supporting Hydro’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainable aluminium production.
Phillip has built an impressive career with Norsk Hydro over more than 16 years, progressing through a series of increasingly senior operational and executive leadership positions across Norway, Brazil, Singapore, and the Middle East. Prior to this appointment, he served as Senior Vice President – Head of Primary Production Global, Hydro Aluminium Metal, where he led Hydro’s global primary aluminium production operations. Earlier, he was Vice President – Head of Product Supply and Joint Venture Offtake, managing the global placement of nearly one million tonnes of casthouse products from Hydro’s joint ventures, while simultaneously serving as Managing Director of Hydro Aluminium Asia Pte. Ltd. and Sales Manager for the Middle East.
Earlier in his career, Phillip held several operational leadership positions within Norsk Hydro, including Owners Representative – Global Joint Ventures, where he represented Hydro’s ownership interests across international aluminium smelters and served on multiple technical committees and boards. He also worked as Electrolysis Manager, Area Manager – Process Control, Project Engineer, and Process Engineer, contributing to technology development, production optimization, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives across Hydro’s global aluminium operations.
In addition to his executive responsibilities, Phillip currently serves as Chairman of the Board at Albras, Chairman of the Board at Slovalco a.s., and Board Member at Qatalum, reflecting his extensive leadership within the global aluminium industry and Hydro’s international joint venture portfolio.
Phillip earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from INSEAD in 2016, complementing his strong technical and operational background with executive business leadership expertise.
