PPG Industries, a global leader in paints, coatings, and specialty materials, announced the appointment of Robert Massy as the new Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), marking a significant leadership transition within the company. Effective March 18, 2024, Massy will take the helm of PPG’s global human resources organization, bringing two decades of expertise and a track record of transformative leadership in HR across various industries and regions. This strategic appointment was made public on March 27, 2024, from PPG’s global headquarters in Pittsburgh.
Massy’s illustrious career is characterized by his roles in enhancing commercial performance and stakeholder value through HR excellence. Before his appointment at PPG, Massy demonstrated exceptional leadership at Westinghouse Electric Company, where he most recently held the position of Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, and CHRO. Throughout his nearly ten-year tenure at Westinghouse, Massy played a pivotal role in the company’s growth and transformation, notably leading a modernized HR function and fostering increased engagement across the organization.
Reporting directly to Tim Knavish, PPG’s Chairman and CEO, Massy will be instrumental in advancing PPG’s growth strategy and nurturing a high-performance culture. Knavish praised Massy’s global business acumen and his proven expertise in leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and change management, among other areas. Massy’s financial and commercial savvy, combined with his ability to create high-performing organizations, aligns with PPG’s objectives to deliver exceptional results for employees, customers, and stakeholders.
Before joining Westinghouse, Massy enriched Weatherford International with his leadership, serving as the Regional Head of Talent in the Asia-Pacific region and subsequently as the Global Head of Talent and Development in the U.S. His HR career also spans roles in Singapore and London, building a solid foundation of experience that he brings to PPG.

Raised in Ireland, Massy is well-educated in the field of human resources, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavior in Organizations/HR from Lancaster University, United Kingdom, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of East London, UK. He has also completed the Executive Management Program at INSEAD, Paris, further enriching his leadership profile.
Massy’s appointment follows the retirement of Kevin Walling, a 35-year veteran of PPG, who has made substantial contributions to the company’s human resources programs. Massy will be based at PPG’s headquarters in Pittsburgh and will serve as a member of the company’s Operating Committee.
