In her expanded role, Pragya is driving a unified India strategy that aligns product, policy, partnerships, and go-to-market efforts, strengthening OpenAI’s commitment to responsible, human-centric innovation. Before this elevation, Pragya Misra led Public Policy & Partnerships for OpenAI India, where she championed initiatives promoting AI safety, transparency, and collaboration to maximize societal benefit. As OpenAI’s first hire in India, she played a pivotal role in establishing the company’s presence and partnerships in the country while forwarding its mission of safe and inclusive AI deployment.

Earlier, she served as Director of Public Affairs at Truecaller, where she built the company’s public affairs function from the ground up. Pragya worked closely with government agencies, media, and civil society to strengthen the platform’s position as a symbol of trust and safety in digital communication, spearheading impactful campaigns such as #ItsNotOk to address harassment over digital channels.

Prior to Truecaller, Pragya was the first communications hire for WhatsApp in India, where she helped shape the platform’s brand and policy narrative during its formative years in the country. She played a crucial role in framing the “WhatsApp story”, driving strategic communication, managing crises, and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders to advance digital inclusion, privacy awareness, and economic empowerment under initiatives such as Digital India and Startup India.

Her earlier experience includes serving as Sector Head, Lifesciences and Transport at the Royal Danish Embassy, where she facilitated market entry and trade expansion for Danish enterprises in South Asia. She also worked with EY India in business development and client strategy, and co-founded MBA-Infosoft Pvt. Ltd., an IT services firm catering to the retail, hospitality, and education sectors.

Pragya Misra holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from IMI Delhi, where she built the foundation for her career in strategic communications, leadership, and global affairs.
