Canada, December 2025 — Sean Chilton has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Health Workforce Canada | Effectif de la santé Canada, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished career in Canada’s healthcare sector. In this new leadership role, Sean will be instrumental in advancing national health workforce planning, data, and policy efforts, working collaboratively with health systems across the country.
Prior to this, Sean Chilton held several senior executive roles at Alberta Health Services over nearly fifteen years. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President, Clinical Operations, and prior to that, as Interim Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Clinical Operations and EMS, and Vice President, People, Health Professions and Information Technology. His extensive leadership spanned clinical strategy, people operations, and organizational transformation.
Earlier in his career at Alberta Health Services, Sean contributed in multiple pivotal roles such as Vice President Collaborative Practice, Chief Zone Officer – South Zone, and Vice President Medicine and Legal Services, consistently driving improvements in patient care, interprofessional collaboration, and workforce development.
His previous roles included Corporate Business Officer and Vice President, Medicine and Legal Services at Peace Country Health, and he also served as Director in various clinical settings at Mistahia Health Region, where he began his healthcare leadership journey.
Sean began his career as a Registered Nurse in the UK and Canada, including at Royal Oldham Hospital and Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, gaining hands-on frontline clinical experience that continues to inform his strategic vision for healthcare delivery.
