Bentonville, Arkansas, United States, June 2026 – Sam’s Club, the membership warehouse club division of Walmart Inc., has announced the appointment of Steve Schrobilgen as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). A respected leader with more than three decades of experience across Sam’s Club and Walmart, Schrobilgen returns to a senior leadership role within the organization where he began his retail career, bringing extensive expertise in operations, transformation, membership growth, and large-scale retail management.
The appointment marks a significant milestone in Schrobilgen’s distinguished career journey, which started at a Sam’s Club location in Davenport, Iowa. Over the years, he has earned a reputation as a transformational leader capable of driving operational excellence, business growth, and customer-centric innovation across multiple markets and business units.
In his new role as EVP and COO, Schrobilgen will oversee end-to-end operations across Sam’s Club’s extensive network of clubs, focusing on operational performance, associate engagement, member experience, supply chain efficiency, and continued business growth. His leadership is expected to play a critical role as Sam’s Club continues to expand its digital capabilities and redefine membership retail through innovation and technology.
Prior to this appointment, Schrobilgen served as Chief Operating Officer of Walmart Canada, where he was responsible for overseeing nationwide operations and driving performance across one of Walmart’s most important international markets. During his tenure, he helped strengthen operational execution, customer experience, and organizational effectiveness while supporting the company’s strategic growth initiatives.
Before moving to Walmart Canada, Schrobilgen served as Senior Vice President – Operations at Walmart U.S., where he led large-scale operational initiatives and played a key role in enhancing store performance, associate productivity, and customer satisfaction across the organization.
A significant portion of his career was spent at Sam’s Club, where he served in numerous leadership positions over more than 22 years. His most notable role was as Vice President, Regional General Manager, leading operations across the Northeast Region for more than a decade. During this period, he was responsible for driving sales growth, operational excellence, membership performance, and talent development across multiple markets.
Earlier, he served as Senior Director, Regional General Manager for Puerto Rico, Market Manager, Director of Operations, and Director of International Membership and Marketing, building broad expertise across operations, membership strategy, marketing, international business, and organizational leadership.
Schrobilgen’s career at Sam’s Club began in club-level leadership roles, serving as Club Manager, where he developed firsthand experience in retail operations, member engagement, and team leadership. His progression from club management to executive leadership exemplifies Sam’s Club’s strong culture of internal talent development and leadership growth.
Throughout his career, Schrobilgen has been recognized for his ability to lead through periods of growth and transformation while maintaining a strong focus on associates and customers. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Blue Coat Award, Sam’s Club’s highest individual honor, recognizing exceptional leadership and contributions to the business.
