Taneshia Horton Appointed as Chief Human Resources Officer at U.S. Department of State

Washington, D.C., United States, March 2025 – Taneshia Horton has stepped into the role of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at the U.S. Department of State, bringing a wealth of experience in federal human resources and strategic workforce management. With a career spanning over 14 years in federal HR leadership, Horton will oversee HR strategy, talent acquisition, and workforce planning for the Department of State’s global operations. Her expertise in personnel management, employee engagement, and federal HR policies will be instrumental in enhancing the department’s human capital strategy.

Before joining the U.S. Department of State, Horton served as Deputy Chief HRO at the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) for nearly seven years, where she played a critical role in federal HR policy implementation, workforce development, and human capital strategy.

She also held the position of Supervisory Human Resources Specialist at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, leading HR initiatives to improve hiring processes and employee experience. Additionally, Horton served as CHRO at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center, overseeing organizational HR strategy and compliance for over seven years.

At the U.S. Department of State, Horton will focus on strengthening HR operations, modernizing workforce policies, and supporting diplomatic personnel worldwide. Her leadership will drive talent acquisition, diversity and inclusion efforts, and employee development programs to ensure the department’s workforce remains resilient and prepared to meet evolving global challenges.
