Riga, Latvia, June 2024 – Vija Vitola has joined Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas | Rail Baltica as the new Head of Human Resources. With extensive experience in human resources management, Vija will lead HR initiatives and strategies to support the organization’s growth and employee engagement.

Before joining Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas | Rail Baltica, Vija served as the Head of HRM and Administration at RB Rail AS | Rail Baltica for over six years. In this role, she was instrumental in establishing and maintaining a supportive framework and systems to enable the organization to achieve its goals. Vija developed an HRM strategy tailored to project management company requirements, covering all HR functions and employee lifecycle procedures.

Prior to her tenure at RB Rail AS, Vija was the Board Project Manager at the same company for over two years. She played a key role in the startup phase of the company, filling functional gaps and assisting the Management Board. Her responsibilities included developing internal policies, recruiting personnel, and overseeing administrative functions.

Vija also served as a Board Member and Owner at SIA Viva Agency for over seven years, where she provided strategic consulting in marketing communications, PR, and organizational development.

In her earlier career, Vija was the Head of New Business Development at A/S Air Baltic Corporation for over four years. She established the new business development unit, defined strategy, and led several prominent projects, including BalticBike and airBalticTravel.

Additionally, Vija held the position of Managing Director at SIA Nords Porter Novelli for a year, where she was responsible for business structure, financial results, client relations, and new business development.

Vija’s extensive experience also includes roles at A/S Air Baltic Corporation as Vice President of Corporate Communications and Cargo Manager, where she managed PR activities, stakeholder relations, and cargo operations.

About Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas | Rail Baltica:

Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas is the national implementing body of the Rail Baltica project in Latvia. The purpose of Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas is to ensure the development of the assets, services, and knowledge necessary for the delivery and management of the strategic railway infrastructure of national importance. The organization aims to implement a common Baltic States infrastructure management model and integrate the Rail Baltica railway line into the Single European Railway Area.

Matthew Breitfelder is Partner and Global Head of Human Capital at Apollo, where he focuses on attracting extraordinary talent to the firm and creating an innovative, inclusive, high-performance culture that brings out the best in Apollo’s people. Matt leads Apollo’s recruiting, talent management, compensation, succession planning, citizenship, employee relations, development, and culture work. He is also a member of the firm’s Leadership Team. Matt is committed to expanding opportunities across Apollo’s workplace, marketplace, and communities. Prior to joining Apollo, Matt was Chief Talent Officer at BlackRock as well as a member of the Operating Committee. Previously, he held strategy, talent, and innovation roles at Mastercard, PwC, and CEB/Gartner.

Matt holds a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the boards of the Lumina Foundation, the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society program, the Milken Institute’s Inclusive Capitalism initiative, and Georgetown University’s initiative on AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work. He is the co-author of numerous Harvard Business School case studies and articles on leadership. Matt has been recognized as a Top Global CHRO multiple times by n2Growth and Stanford Business School.
