Zenith Bank Plc, a leading financial institution, proudly announced the groundbreaking appointment of Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, OON, as its new Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, effective from June 1, 2024. This appointment awaits approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and follows the successful tenure of Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, which concludes on May 31, 2024. Dr. Umeoji, who has served as the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank since October 28, 2016, brings a wealth of nearly three decades of extensive banking experience, with the majority spent nurturing her career within Zenith Bank. Her comprehensive educational background includes attending the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School and obtaining a Certificate in the Global Banking Program from Columbia Business School. Dr. Umeoji is a highly qualified professional with degrees in Sociology, Accounting, Law, a Master of Laws, a Master in Business Administration (MBA), and a doctorate in business administration.

Her academic accolades are complemented by her certification from the prestigious MIT Sloan School of Management in Economics for Business and various management programs from renowned universities, including Wharton Business School and Harvard Business School, in strategic thinking and global business leadership.

Dr. Umeoji is recognized by several professional bodies, reflecting her commitment to excellence and ethical banking practices. In 2022, she was honored with the Officer of the Order of the Niger by the Federal Government of Nigeria, acknowledging her significant contributions to nation-building and her status as a Peace Advocate of the United Nations (UN-POLAC).

Her philanthropic efforts through the Pink Breathe Cancer Foundation and the Adorable Foundation have made substantial impacts on cancer patients and the education of indigent children, particularly in supporting the Girl-Child. These humanitarian contributions have earned her the Humanitarian Service Icon Award for 2023 from the Sun Newspaper.

Dr. Umeoji’s passion for promoting professionalism in the banking industry led to the founding of the Catholic Bankers Association of Nigeria (CBAN), aimed at fostering ethical banking and service to humanity. Her dedication to her faith and community has been recognized with the honor of a Papal Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester by His Holiness Pope Francis and as a Lady of the Order of Knights of St. John International (KSJI).

As Zenith Bank Plc looks forward to Dr. Umeoji’s leadership, her remarkable career and contributions to the banking sector and beyond signify a promising future for the bank under her stewardship.
