ABB has officially announced the appointment of Morten Wierod as the new Chief Executive Officer, set to take the helm on August 1, 2024. This strategic transition will see Wierod stepping into the role following the retirement of the current CEO, Björn Rosengren, who will step down on July 31, 2024, and officially retire at the end of the year. During the interim, Rosengren will play a pivotal role in advising Wierod and the Executive Committee to ensure a smooth transition.

Norwegian citizen Morten Wierod, 52, emerged as the selected candidate after a comprehensive selection process by the ABB Board of Directors. Wierod, an ABB veteran since 1998, has been a key figure in the company’s executive team since 2019. His current role as President of the Electrification Business Area, along with his prior position as President of the Motion Business Area, showcases his extensive experience and leadership within the company. Wierod holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, emphasizing his deep technical background.

Peter Voser, ABB Chairman, expressed his confidence in Wierod, highlighting his profound understanding of ABB’s business model, expertise in customer segments, and a strong performance record. Voser reaffirmed that under Wierod’s leadership, ABB would continue to advance its priorities, financial goals, and sustainability objectives.

The Board also extended its gratitude towards Rosengren for his transformative leadership over the past four years, crediting him with aligning ABB’s business portfolio and enhancing the company’s financial and sustainability performance.

In response to his appointment, Wierod shared his enthusiasm for leading ABB towards a low-carbon society, leveraging the company’s decentralized operating model and market leadership in electrification and automation.

Rosengren reflected on his tenure, expressing pride in ABB’s evolution into an agile leader in its field and its crucial role in the energy transition. He voiced his confidence in Wierod’s capability to drive ABB forward.

The search for Wierod’s successor as President of the Electrification Business Area will commence shortly. Additional information about Morten Wierod, including a full biography and high-resolution images, is available on ABB’s website.

ABB stands as a pioneering force in electrification and automation, committed to a sustainable future through its innovative solutions and over 105,000 dedicated employees.
