Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, April 2025 — Debmalya Sen has been appointed as the new President of the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), bringing with him decades of experience in the energy sector. Before joining IESA, he served as India Lead – Advanced Energy Solutions at the World Economic Forum, where he collaborated with governments and corporates to advance energy storage and green hydrogen initiatives. His career also includes key roles at KPMG India, Customized Energy Solutions, and Apraava Energy (formerly CLP India), where he played a crucial role in energy policy development, business consulting, and renewable integration strategies. With an MBA in Finance from SP Jain School of Global Management, Debmalya has been actively involved in industry leadership, co-authoring reports and advocating for policies that drive sustainable energy solutions.
At India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), Debmalya will lead transformative initiatives in energy storage, grid modernization, and renewable energy integration. His recent tenure at the World Economic Forum included shaping the Green Hydrogen Policy Roadmap for India under the Ministry of Power, forming industry clusters, and driving energy policy dialogue. Prior to that, at KPMG India, he supported the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and SECI in formulating storage policy, battery PLI frameworks, and gigafactory strategies. He also played a pivotal role in capacity building for DISCOMs and advising on RTC tenders.
During his time at Customized Energy Solutions, Debmalya contributed extensively to market reports, technology landscaping, optimal sizing assessments, and authored multiple whitepapers and international publications. He also mentored for the World Bank’s Women in Energy Storage initiative, showcasing his dedication to inclusive industry development. His early years at Apraava Energy spanned innovation in renewables, O&M planning, M&A diligence, and international asset management experience in Hong Kong.
As President of IESA, Debmalya Sen is poised to enhance collaboration between industry stakeholders, policymakers, and technology providers to accelerate India’s energy transition. His extensive background in asset management, consulting, and energy innovation will be key in expanding IESA’s reach and impact in battery storage, green hydrogen, and electric mobility. His appointment marks a significant step forward in strengthening India’s leadership in sustainable energy and advanced storage solutions.
