London, United Kingdom, May 2026 — Standard Chartered has appointed Tanuj Kapilashrami as Group Chief Operating Officer (Group COO), marking a significant leadership advancement for the international banking group as it strengthens its strategic, operational, and organizational leadership for the future.
Kapilashrami has been a key member of Standard Chartered’s leadership team for over nine years and currently serves as Chief Strategy & Talent Officer, where she has been leading enterprise strategy, workforce transformation, organizational capability, and leadership development. Her appointment to Group COO reflects her broad impact across strategic execution and institutional transformation.
Before this role, she served as Chief Human Resources Officer for more than five years, where she transformed Standard Chartered’s global HR, talent, and culture agenda, strengthening leadership pipelines, workforce strategy, employee engagement, and organizational resilience across the bank’s extensive global footprint.
Earlier, she held the role of Global Head, Talent, Learning & Culture and Global Head, HR, Corporate, Commercial & Institutional Banking, where she played a central role in aligning talent priorities with long-term business objectives and operational growth.
Her broader governance portfolio includes serving as a Trustee of the Standard Chartered Foundation, alongside board positions with Sainsbury’s, Asia House, Vault22, NHS England, and the Financial Services Skills Commission, underscoring her strong influence across governance, inclusion, public policy, and strategic leadership.
Before joining Standard Chartered, Kapilashrami spent over 17 years with HSBC, where she held multiple senior leadership positions across India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, and London, culminating in her role as Group General Manager, Head of HR EMEA, Global IT & Operations and International Management.
With more than two decades of experience spanning global banking, enterprise strategy, operations, talent leadership, and governance, Kapilashrami brings exceptional institutional depth and strategic capability to her new role as Group COO.
