London, England, United Kingdom, May 2025 – Tesco has announced the appointment of Ashwin Prasad as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective January 2026. A member of the Executive Committee since 2020 and a long-time commercial leader within the organisation, Prasad steps into the role with a proven track record of shaping Tesco’s product and customer strategy across key markets. He succeeds Michele Molon, who will depart the company in July 2025 to pursue a new opportunity.
In his new role as CEO, Ashwin Prasad will be responsible for steering the retail giant’s strategic and operational roadmap in the UK and beyond, continuing Tesco’s transformation in the fast-evolving global retail landscape.
Group CEO Ken Murphy commented on the appointment: “Ashwin is an exceptional leader with a strong track record for delivering for our customers. His experience leading our product and customer strategy makes him the ideal person to take over as UK CEO.”
Ashwin Prasad has been with Tesco for over 15 years, holding a range of progressively senior leadership roles. Most recently, he served as Group Chief Commercial Officer, overseeing Tesco’s product and customer strategy globally, and was accountable for planning, ranging, sourcing, and procurement functions across all Tesco markets. Prior to this, he served as Group Chief Product Officer, leading end-to-end trading performance and operations for products and services in the UK.
Before taking on group-level responsibilities, Prasad was Commercial Director for both General Merchandise and Packaged Foods & Petrol, where he successfully managed categories such as grocery, health, beauty, wellness, and convenience. Earlier roles at Tesco included Director – Health, Beauty & Wellness, Category Director – Bakery & Dairy, and Senior Buying Manager – Confectionary.
Prior to joining Tesco in 2010, Prasad gained significant commercial experience with Mars, where he held senior leadership roles including Market Development Director and European Commercial Director. His career also includes earlier business development and sales roles with BOC UK & Ireland and BOC South Pacific, where he developed expertise in strategy, sales, and product management.
